ILP-DC Literacy Walkathon - July 17th, 2005
ILP-DC Literacy Walkathon
The Walkathon Journal
July 17, 2005–Reston, VA
Life sometimes brings suspense. All that preparations for the walk-a-thon,
the forecast of thunderstorm, not to mention hot and humid climate, everything
seemed to be working against us. However everyone kept their cool and kept on
working according to the plan. Needless to say that in the end, the weather
also seemed to join ILP-DC that day to redeem the efforts of everyone involved.
The participants in small groups tackled the 1.5-mile trail with vigor,
some walking the distance twice or thrice depending on the number of miles
they had registered for.
A surprise visit from Srinivas Savaram, one
of the original founders of the ILP-DC chapter who happened to be in town
enlivened proceedings and he even stayed around to chat with participants
and field questions on ILP. With temperature and humidity rapidly rising
as the morning continued, refreshments were served. Bottled water, soda,
chips & salsa, poories, vegetable puffs from event sponsor “Hot Breads”
were some items in the menu. Conversation and ideas flowed freely,
contact information exchanged and good byes finally said around noon with a
promise to be back again in 2006.
Thanks to all the participants and volunteers!
