ILP-DC Bhangra Bash: May 31st, 2008

TJ High School,
6560 Braddock Rd,
Alexandria, VA 22315

The ILP-DC Chapter together with the Namaste student club hosted the first-ever high school Bhangra dance competition in Northern Va. in June, ‘07 at Liberty Middle School. This event was tailored along the lines of the famous collegiate-level competitions across the US that occur in campuses such as MIT and George Washington University. Due to overwhelming demand, ILP-DC is partnering with Namaste again this year to host the 2nd annual Bhangra bash event at the Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, VA. ILP-DC is also being supported by Utsav [a not-for-profit cultural organization] volunteers in this effort.

As such any high school team from any region is allowed to participate with limit being set to 10 members per team. Each school can also be represented by more than 1 team. All proceeds from the event will be donated to ILP in order to help attain its goal of a 100% literate India.

About ILP:

India Literacy Project (ILP) is a volunteer based non-profit organization dedicated to the cause of literacy in India. By empowering every individual we serve with functional literacy and an understanding of their basic rights and responsibilities, ILP strives to be a catalyst for 100% literacy in India.

Founded in 1990 in the USA by a group of young Non-Resident Indians [NRIs], ILP's main role is to enable and support the implementing partner (NGO) in its processes of strengthening the community, to identify and address the gaps in the delivery of education services, and to bring about systemic changes through advocacy.
