By empowering every individual we serve with functional literacy and an understanding of their basic rights and responsibilities, ILP strives to be a catalyst for 100% literacy in India.

  1. How does the Walkathon help the cause of literacy?

The funds you raise at the Walkathon will go towards funding literacy programs in India. For example: In 2004, ILP distributed $126,000 to 25 literacy projects run by NGOs [Non-governmental organizations] across 10 different states.

  2. How can I participate in the Walkathon?

By following the simple instructions listed on the left. This includes registering online, printing out and filling the pledge form. Please remember to bring the completed pledge form and funds collected with you to the Walkathon.

  3. Who can I collect pledges from?

Ask for pledges from friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, business associates, fellow students, teachers, your doctor, or just about anyone you know!

  4. How much money should I collect in pledges?

Whatever you can. It takes an average of $30 to educate one person for a year in India and the money you raise will make a small contribution towards eradicationg illiteracy in India.

  5. What portion of the pledge funds I raise will actually reach India?

All of the funds raised will go towards literacy projects in India. Since ILP is an entirely volunteer-based organization there are no overhead costs. Also, donations to ILP in the USA are 100% tax-deductible under Section 501(c)3 of the IRS code [Tax ID: #36-3779020].

  6. Are pledges optional?

Yes. Your registeration and commitment to walk for the cause is a big help.

  7. Can I volunteer for this (or any other) event?

You certainly can. New enthusiastic volunteers always bring innovative and refreshing perspectives. We always welcome anybody who is interested to work with us.
Please contact us either by email or phone 703. .

We hope that you will join us in making this event a grand succe
